Create A Solid Video Marketing Plan

But if you’re wondering how to add video to your current marketing plan, I have some recommendations! As a video content creator and specialist myself, I have seen first hand how video can positively impact a business. But there is a way to do it so that you can reap the benefits early on and not spend a lot of time spinning your wheels.

Evaluate Your Current Content

If you’re already making content in the form of a blog or podcast, my first recommendation is to evaluate that content. It’s the perfect way to start generating video content ideas, and to see what content your current audience likes the most. The content that is giving you the best results can be repurposed into videos.

Build a Solid Foundation

If you aren’t currently making content to evaluate, then you can start with the basics. Whenever I’m working with a client that is starting from scratch, I often analyze their business and establish a foundation of video content that they can roll out and then build onto as they grow.

Every business is a little different and will need different videos to establish their foundation. But  in most cases I recommend starting with a brand video, and then for service-based businesses, a short series around their area of expertise and for product-based businesses, product videos of their most popular items.

You might be wondering what a brand video is? Simply put, a brand video is a carefully crafted video introducing/explaining the heart of your brand. It is not a standard commercial where you talk about what you do or a specific product you offer. It is a video that tells the viewer your why, and if you ask me, it is a must have in your video marketing plan.

I often recommend that a brand video be the first priority when you are building out a comprehensive video marketing plan.

Map out a Video Content Plan

Once you have established a strong foundation and evaluated your current content (if available) I recommend mapping out your video content ideas on paper (or digitally). I like to map mine out in a google document but you can use any software you like. This is where you (or someone from your team) starts to think about how you want to roll out your videos in relation to the rest of your marketing efforts. The idea here is to have your videos complement what you’re already doing, working seamlessly with you and not creating distractions.

Some choose to add this information into their current content marketing plan so that it’s all in the same place, others like to have it separate, you can decide what works best for you. But having the plan written out will help you to produce and execute your videos better, which will yield better results. It’s also important to work out a publishing schedule for your video content.

Consider Your Distribution

Creating the content is just one part of the puzzle, remember to consider how you will distribute them so that they have the opportunity to work for you! If you don’t have a solid distribution plan, all of your hard work will fly under the radar. I recommend using your chosen social media platforms first. Facebook, twitter and instagram are great for sharing your video content.

It’s important to note that Facebook has a ton of groups where you can connect with other business owners and share your content. Getting involved in forums where people are asking questions that you can answer is also a great way to market yourself and share your videos. Quora is a great forum where you can answer related questions, but be very careful not to come off spammy.
