If you’re looking for a way to build and cultivate your brand, starting a youtube channel is likely something you’ve considered. But if you’re still on the fence, let me cut to the chase and say that you absolutely need a youtube channel!
I talk extensively about the power of video on this blog, and as a video content creator myself — I have seen how professional videos can change the trajectory of a career and/or business. I truly believe that consistent, good quality video content is one of the most powerful marketing tools available to us right now.
The Power of Youtube
Youtube has over 1 billion users and counting. Every day, 5 billion videos are watched via youtube. We are definitely living in the age of “on demand” content. And with numbers like these reported from Merchdope I don’t see any reason not to jump into the pool:
- YouTube gets over 30 million visitors per day
- By 2025, half of the viewers under 32 will not subscribe to a pay-TV service.
- 6 out of 10 people prefer online video platforms to live TV
You have the potential to skyrocket views to your brand, special offer, or business in ways that only youtube deliver.
Why You Need A Youtube Channel
You may be thinking, “Youtube is saturated, i’m sure that someone is already making videos covering the same topics I would.” You are not wrong, but that’s no reason to avoid making videos of your own! In fact, 85% of people reported that they want to see videos from brands they support.
Think about this, when you want to get information on a given topic, how do you go about it? Do you go online and watch one video or read one article and feel confident that you’ve seen all there is to see? I hope not! Most people will read multiple articles, watch multiple videos and if you’re really thorough maybe read a a book or two. This fact is precisely why it doesn’t matter how many videos are being produced in a specific genre. Your audience is meant for you, and when they find you they will support!
You may also be thinking that you only need to create video content when you have something specific to promote like a online course, upcoming sale, or a new product. Nope! You can create general video content about hot topics in your area of expertise. Here are 5 reasons why you need a youtube channel:
Build Your Brand
We all have a brand, it’s just a matter of who is controlling the conversation. You can proactively cultivate it, or you let others decide for—you choose! If you want to be proactive, then video content is an excellent way to build and establish your personal brand. As long as the content is relevant and helpful, you will be able to establish yourself as an authority.
Expand Your Reach
One third of all the videos viewed online are watched through youtube. (techhive) That’s a staggering realization. If you start uploading to youtube, you have the opportunity to expand your reach well beyond your current level of influence. The more eyes on you, the more opportunity you have to network and grow.
Improve your SEO
Yes, video content can and will improve your overall SEO. Youtube is it’s own search engine, in fact, it’s the second largest search engine in the world. As long as you take the time to include relevant keywords in your title and description you are well on your way to improving your SEO with video.
Video far surpasses most other content in engagement statistics. People are far more likely to watch, share, and comment on videos as opposed to any other form of content. If you want to engage with your audience and establish a relationship with them, video content is the answer.
Video content can be used and reused for long periods of time depending on the content. What’s more, you can easily share it across almost any website or social media channel. Video is the future (and present), and you can now upload content to IGTV, Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter. People who have uploaded their video content to these channels have also seen excellent return on investment, and with our busy lives it’s nice to have something that you can create once and reuse as much as you’d like!
Pro tip: It’s important to note that uploading the same video in full to multiple channels is not recommended and it can actually hurt your overall SEO results. You may want to consider creating slightly different versions of each video and then directing them to the full version that you have housed on youtube.
