Blogging is one marketing tool that has been hotly debated for years. Not that long ago, you could make a ridiculous amount of money blogging! And it didn’t take much, because it was a new phenomenon and there wasn’t a lot of competition. Today, there are thousands of blogs on the internet covering pretty much any topic you can think of. - Content marketing gets three times more leads than paid search advertising. (Content Marketing Institute, 2017 HubSpot)
And yes, profitable blogs are being started every year regardless of saturation. It just takes discipline and a willingness to succeed.
Why Should You Start a Blog?
While the above statistics are promising, that doesn’t mean it’s going come easy. If you’re looking for more reasons to start a blog, here’s what I’ve found:
You’ll Establish Yourself as an Authority
You’ll notice that earlier I said consistent and relevant blogging yields positive results. Relevant is the key word here. When you are working to build your brand, it’s important that people can trust you. It’s like the old adage, people do business with people they like. They also do business with people they feel they can trust. What’s more, is they’ll refer business to people they feel they can trust. It’s really that simple.
So how do you build trust? One way is establishing yourself as an authority in the field of your choice. What is an authority? Basically, it’s someone who knows what they are talking about— you are informed about your topic of choice. The more valuable information you can provide, the more trust you build. If you’re able to write a post that people share, you’ll start to garner social proof which in turn builds more trust.
And of course, one way you can provide value with little to no cost to you, is writing blog posts.

The more you can show that you are participating and ‘in the know’ of what’s happening, the more people will come to trust you. You’d be hard pressed to find a better way to do this than blogging.

If the content is evergreen (something I highly recommend), your efforts will be long-lasting and cumulative. It gets no better than that! The more eyeballs on your content, the greater the chances are that you’ll reap the rewards. And you don’t have to have a ton of page views either! I received inquires about my video services when I had less than 1,000 page views. So don’t worry about that! Start now and you will be well on your way to higher audience engagement and profits.
You Can Connect with Other Like-Minded People
We can not do it alone, and no successful powerhouse go to her goal without the help of others. It’s always a good idea to be on the look out for potential partnerships. Partnerships are mutually beneficial collaborations for all parties involved. From personal experience, the blogging community is one of the better communities out there. They are a group of nice authentic people who are always looking to connect with others. It’s a great way to build your network, even if they aren’t in your immediate area. I’ve seen people meet through blogging and develop fantastic projects together—I’ve even seen some long-lasting friendships emerge.
You Can Create Another Stream of Income
There are really are no limits to what a blog can do for you. It can increase your business as it stands today by attracting more viable leads looking for the services and products you currently offer. But as your blog gets larger, you can start to partner with brands you trust for sponsorship and ad space. These are things that don’t require you to do anything more then what you’re already doing and you’ll make money from it. Your blog can become it’s own entity, a stream of income for you that is somewhat independent from your actual business. Ultimately, blogging can get your business where you want it to go.
